The Tver Cathedral Mosque, seen in Tver among Orthodox churches and classical mansions, was built in 1906 at the request of the Muslim community of the city, which at that time numbered 300 people. The Muslims worked at the Tver manufactories, and 73 people served in regiments, lodging in Tver.
The Tver Mosque was built on the money that the entire Muslim community collected. The total of about 2500 rubles was collected. The “x” amount of money was paid by a benefactor. The architect made a mosque in the classic Muslim architecture of the New Mauritanian style. It is very elegant thanks to the red and white patterns in the oriental style and the narrow windows. A minaret 16 meters high in the northern part of the building is decorated with a four-meter spire with a half-moon at the end. In 1935 the mosque was closed, and was returned to the Muslim community only in 1992. Since then regular services have been held there, and Muslim holidays are celebrated.
