The Castle of Love and Deceit is a rock formation in the vicinity of Kislovodsk. The mountain cliff, resembling a candle in shape, rises above the mountain stream. This romantic and sad place is adored by loving couples who come here for secluded dates.
The Castle of Love and Deceit is associated with an ancient legend of a princely daughter Dautha and a young man Ali of humble origin. They loved each other, but could not get permission from the prince to marry. The girl’s father had other intentions, so the lovers were forced to flee. The prince sent people in pursuit of them, and standing on a stony corniche of a deep mountain gorge above the Alikonovka River, Dautha and Ali had to choose between life and love. Ali jumped into the chasm first, and the girl either hesitated or did not jump, or fainted away because of fear — here legends diverge. Anyway, it is believed that the young princess betrayed her lover at that moment. Hence the name of a stone corniche over the mountain river: the Castle of Love and Deceit. There is a belief that if you look closely, you can see the faces of Ali, the evil prince-father and unhappy Dautha in the rocky outlines. It seems like a real castle stands under the rocks. This is a restaurant of Caucasian cuisine, where weddings and other events are often held.
