Aleхandrov State Art Museum — a Gallery in the Merchant’s Estate

The Alexandrov State Art Museum reflects the life of local merchants of the late XIX — early XX centuries, and also demonstrates the skills of local artists of the last century. The exposition is located in a classical mansion of the 1870s, which previously belonged to merchant Alexei Pervushin. He was an honorary citizen of Alexandrov, and his house was a meeting place for the town’s creative and intellectual elite. The interiors of the hall, the living room, the bedroom and dining room are recreated as they were when occupied by the Pervushin family. An exhibition «Privratnitskaya», arranged in the ancillary building, tells how the servants lived.

You better become familiar with the merchant life in the Aleхandrov State Art Museum during theatricalized excursions. For example, you can attend «At Merchant Pervushin’s House» program, during which visitors are welcomed by the house-owner and his wife. Their children arrange a home theater and the servants show how to properly heat the samovar. The museum also has an exhibition hall with the works by local artists from the late 19th century up to the present day.

There is a «Retro» Museum of Arcade Machines near the estate of merchant Pervushin, on Sovetskaya Street. Here you can and should touch the exhibits: most of the Soviet arcade machines are in working order. They are activated by tokens, or rather Soviet 15-copeck coins. The machines enable to play table football, sea-fight, tetris, racing and other games. The same building houses a shooting club.
