Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Krasnodar is an airy white church with five gilded domes and graceful windows in the Florentine style. The finishing of the base and corners of the building with gray noble granite gives it sternness and grandeur. The temple glorifies Prince Alexander Nevsky, one of the most legendary commanders of the times of Kievan Rus, as well as the valor of the Cossack Army. The Cathedral keeps the relics of the Cossacks: a mace, banners and tsar's letters.
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was built in 1872. It was once visited by Emperors Alexander III and Nicholas II. In 1932 the temple was blown up, and in 2006 it was restored and consecrated. Inside the cathedral is no less beautiful than outside: a majestic iconostasis of light marble, whitewashed walls, high vaults and a painted ceiling, decorated with dark-blue and light-blue ornaments. Near the cathedral there is a small garden square, a monument to the great commander and a symbolic round cross. Both sculptures are snow-white and surprisingly harmonize with the temple, the domes of which are illuminated at night and are visible from afar.
