Schweinfurt’s Old Town Hall is the most beautiful building in the town. It was built in 1570-1572 by Nikolaus Hofmann. It was a transition period for the European architecture: the Gothic style had already given way to the Renaissance. Being unable to focus only on one thing, Hofmann created a bizarre mix of Gothic and Renaissance. But the building only benefited this alliance. A happy fate was awaiting Hofmann’s creation - it passed through all the adversity totally intact and preserved the original appearance. Not surprisingly, the Schweinfurt Town Hall is the most photographed building in the town. In winter, the area in front of the Town Hall becomes a place of Christmas festivities: a skating rink and a Christmas market are opened there.
