Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum was opened in 1754, which makes it the oldest public museum in Germany. Duke of Brunswick who ruled in the second half of the XVII century, collected a brilliant collection of works by masters of Northern Europe: Rembrandt, Vermeer, Rubens, Dürer, Van Dyck. The duke also collected an outstanding collection of porcelain figurines, dishes and furniture, which he brought from China and from all over Europe.
