The Court Church of the Virgin Mary on Karlsplatz Square was rebuilt many times. About a thousand years ago, there was a court chapel, then a Benedictine monastery, and later the Protestant church appeared. The current building was built in the early XVII century by the example of St. Michael’s Church in Munich. Later, the church became a Jesuit church. Peter Paul Rubens is the author of the altar. He painted scenes from the Last Judgement and it is his largest work.
Now Rubens’ creation is in the Pinakothek in Munich. The master also painted the side altars, and they, too, were given to the Pinakothek, and are now on display in its branch in Neuburg Castle.
