The exposure of Oberhessisches museum is so vast that is placed in several buildings. The Wallenfels' house (Wallenfels'schen Haus) includes archaeological remains of these places, as well as of the Mediterranean region and Tibet. Here you can see the tools of ancient people, as well as coins and other objects of the Carolingian era, as well as engravings and maps of Giessen dating to later periods. The half-timbered Leib‘s house (Leib'sche Haus) accomodates the ethnographic department, which recreates the rural and noble lives. A collection of antique ceramics of Giessen University is also included in the museum's collection. The art collection of the museum with works by local artists of the XIX-XX centuries are exhibited in the old castle.
