The town of Mindelheim and Mindelburg Castle are located 30 km from Memmingen. The castle was built at the end of the XII century and belonged to the old Tyrolean family. Georg von Frundsberg was born in Mindelburg in 1473. He had a distinguished military career in the service of Emperor Maximilian I and figured in history as the "Father of Landsknechts", the first German infantry.
The Landsknechts army consisted of mercenaries from the lower class. In the Mindelheim it is impossible to overpass St. Sylvester’s Chapel (Silvesterkapelle). Inside there is a museum of tower clock (Schwäbisches Turmuhrenmuseum) with the world second largest tower pendulum. The neo-Renaissance town hall stands on the main Marienplatz square (Marienplatz), and in the center of the square there is a fountain of the mid-18th-century.
