Marksburg Castle is unique because it has preservedthe original appearance of a medieval fortress built on a hill to control themost important trade route in the region. Most of the buildings of the castlecomplex have survived since the XIII - XV centuries. The oldest building in thefortress was built in 1239.

Guided tours are organized to Marksburg Castle.You can see the details of the medieval life in the kitchen, in the great hall,the bedroom, the Chapel of St. Mark of the XIV century, the armory room withsuits of armor, and wine cellars. A cannon battery still "looks" atthe Rhine through the loopholes
