Thefirst German President Theodor Heuss called Ludwigsburg’s Market Square themost majestic in Wurtemberg. This is due to its large size and the features ofthe architecture. The main square is decorated with two baroque churches. Oneof them is the evangelical city church (Stadtkirhe) with two pink twin towers. The second is the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity (Dreieinigkeitskirche).
A fountain was built opposite the church of theHoly Trinity in 1723 with a statue of the founder of the city, Duke EberhardLudwig, in combat armor with a marshal's baton in his hand. The square itselfis surrounded by picturesque arcades, old houses and small cozy restaurants. Bylong tradition with its roots in 1714, a lively market opens here on Tuesdays,Thursdays and Saturdays. The city holidays and festivals, including the traditionalChristmas Market are held on the main square.
