During the XVIII century, the large-scale Ludwigsburg Palace complex wascontinuously being completed. New hunting lodges - Favorite (Schloss Favorite)and Mon Repos (Seeschloss Monrepos) appeared nearby. In 1723, in the northernpart of the park that surrounds Ludwigsburg Palace, the ducal hunting Favorite Castlewas built in the Baroque style. It emerged in the midst of the vast huntinggrounds, today a natural park, with 300-year-old oak trees and tame deer.
The original neo-classical interiors, thefurniture of the Napoleonic era, and the amazing gallery paintings havesurvived in the palace, which you can visit as part of an organized tour.Favorite Castle repeatedly became a film set for historical films. And today, itshalls host the German evening TV talk show «NACHTCAFe».
There is another Ducal Palace called Mon Repos(monrepos means “my peace” in French) not far from here, on the shore of asmall lake. It is considered a recognized masterpiece of Rococo. The constructionof this hunting castle was completed in 1768. Today it also houses a museum withan interior of the Napoleonic era, with antique furniture and paintings. In summer, open air concerts of chamber musicare held just near Mon Repos Castle, boats trips and spectacular fireworks are organizedacross the lake.
