In the middle of the XVII century, the first Huguenot Church appeared outside France, in Erlangen. The French Huguenots fleeing persecution in their homeland, found a refuge in this city. It is unbelievable, yet true: in the middle of the XVII century, French living here were three times more than the Germans themselves! Even more interesting is the fact that the temple was built not on money of Huguenots, but on the funds allocated to them by Christian Ernst, Margrave of Brandenburg. The French built the church in the Baroque style. It is believed that the craze of the German for baroque style in the city began with this temple.
