Surrounded by a deep moat, the medieval Haus-zum-Haus Castle dates back to the XIII century. During its heyday, the castle was owned by Marshall of the Duchy of Berg, Johann vom Haus. Throughout its history, the castle was strengthened and added for many times. The last major renovation took place in 1972. Despite the fact that only modern materials were used during the restoration, the castle has preserved the medieval appearance and received several architectural awards.
Haus-zum-Haus is privately owned, but its dungeon and courtyard can be visited in a guide tour. Inside is the gourmet restaurant called Wasserburg Haus zum Haus, included in the Michelin Red Guide. The building of the former barn has a hall for regular chamber music concerts and art exhibitions. Young people can visit the cultural center for a token fee of €1.
