The High Time House in Hameln is one of the finestexamples of Weser Renaissance in Lower Saxony. It was the last stone buildingbuilt here. The construction was completed in 1617. The building is often alsoreferred to as the Wedding House, although various celebrations are held in itsballroom on the ground floor. Besides, there was also a court, bar and a pharmacy(Ratsapotheke) at the House.
The pharmacy inthe High Time House has a historical value. Friedrich Serturner, the first personwho isolated morphine from opium, opened it in 1822. A plaque was placed on thehouse in his memory. The city authorities established an armory on the firstfloor. In 1930 the house was rebuilt, and in 1950 the city registrar was openedin the building. In 1964, 37 bells were hung on the pediment. They ring at 01:05pm,03:35pm and 05:35pm every day. Besides, a bronze door opens on the façade, fromwhich the statue of the Pied Piper with children and rats come out.
