The Catholic church of Frauenkirche in Günzburg was built in the middle of the 18th century. It is the largest work of the famous German architect Dominikus Zimmermann. He also participated in the creation of the rich rococo-style interior of the church. Most impressing are frescos in the central part of the ceiling, depicting birth of Virgin Mary to whom the church is dedicated.
When you are in Frauenkirche of Günzburg, besides the frescos you should pay attention to the richly decorated choir, main and auxiliary altars. You will also notice the beautiful capitals from pink marble with stucco work and gilding on the top that give the interior its solemnity. There is a 50-metres-tall rococo-style belfry hovering over the church.
