Thanks to this Baroque church, Aufhausen tiny village at 20 km from Straubing is a popular place of pilgrimage. The temple was built in the middle of the XVIII century by Johann Michael Fischer, one of the most talented church architects in the Southern Germany. Asam brothers are the authors of the church paintings. They are famous in Bavaria (in particular Munich and Burghausen) for their extraordinary baroque churches. The main relic and object of pilgrimage here is the statue of the Merciful Madonna, which is believed to be able to absolute from sins.
