Every year one and a half million people visit the carnival in Cologne. For the first time it was organised in the 20s of the XIX century. Festival takes place in the late February, before the beginning of Lent, but preparations begin in advance, specifically from November 11th, when the tower clock strikes 11 hours and 11 minutes. All the details about the celebration of the popular festival are presented in the Carnival Museum, which was opened in summer 2005. It is possible to find there outlandish costumes and masks, puppets and musical instruments, to admire the exhibition of photographs from carnivals of last year’s, to see a movie and, of course, to learn the whole story of carnival from ancient times to the present day.
