The Archaeological Museum of Stilt Houses is located in the town of Unteruhldingen. Here you can see real houses of the Neolithic period and Stone Age, as it was in the region of Lake Constance. The refurbished models of stilt houses standing directly in the lake have the same look as their predecessors at the period from 4000 to 850 BC.
During archeological excavations utensils were found here, which are now exhibited in the houses. The museum also serves as a science center: experts examine the impact of weather on wood and other materials from which the piled houses were built, and the ancient building techniques. The interior of ancient dwellings, including with original objects of everyday life, showing scenes from the life of their inhabitants are recreated in the reconstructed houses.
