The Museum of Wooden Architecture "Kostroma Sloboda" was created to preserve the best samples of folk architecture of the XVIII-XIX centuries. It was opened to visitors in 1958. And before that, for many years wooden huts, churches, baths, mills in disassembled form were brought to the open space near the Ipatievsky Monastery from different villages of the Kostroma region. And this museum was formed under the open sky.
In the museum "Kostroma Sloboda" one can walk through the village, look into the peasant huts and a rural church decorated with a carved iconostasis, marvel at a bath standing on piles, like the hut of Baba Yaga, and look at the apiary and forge. The interior decoration has been restored in many huts, and the expositions work, telling about the customs and traditions of rural residents. The youngest visitors will be pleased with the meeting with their favorite fairy-tale heroes in the "The Faraway Kingdom". The museum organizes thematic exhibitions and master classes, various festivals and holidays in the warm season.
