White Lake is located in the historical center of Tomsk on top of Voskresenskaya Mountain. A beautiful legend is associated with it, explaining its name. According to a legend, beautiful Toma, the daughter of the local prince Toyan, sacrificed her life and shed her blood in the waters of the lake to cure all the warriors of her father. When the sacrifice was made, the water of the lake boiled and remained forever white. This water is attributed to healing properties. Till the beginning of the twentieth century residents of the surrounding streets used water from the lake as drinking water.
The second legend associated with the White Lake tells of birches which grew here till the end of the XIX century. Then the first park was built around the lake. In the 40s of the twentieth century fruit trees, saplings of cedars and poplars were planted here, and several sculptures were installed. Now here is the city’s recreation area.
