The elegant modern building of the Lyalya-Tyulpan (tulip) mosque attracts thousands of believers, pilgrims and tourists under its arches every year. The mosque is made in accordance with the canons of Turkic symbols: the tulip for the Bashkirs means the coming of spring, awakening and rebirth. The mosque represents a blossoming flower and the two tall minarets enframing it are young buds.
The believers themselves started collecting the money for the construction of the Lyalya-Tyulpan Mosque in the 80s of the XX century. The construction work lasted for almost 10 years - from 1989 to 1998. Eyewitnesses say that despite hard times and cold winters, construction did not stop even for a day. Now the mosque is not only a temple for divine worship, but also an important educational and religious center. For a number of years the Russian Islamic University was located here, and now there is a madrasah - a Muslim School where they study the Quran, Arabic history, the art of calligraphy and other subjects. The mosque holds important events for Muslims throughout the country. For example, just from its chair the Supreme Mufti of Russia reads his sermons. The marble walls of Lyalya-Tyulpan are decorated with a complex eastern designs, in the bright stained-glass windows one can see reflection of the pastures of Heaven, and beautiful soft carpets lie on the floor. To enter the mosque in shoes is strictly prohibited.
