The main Orthodox church of Ulan-Ude the Holy Odigitrievsky Cathedral, dedicated to the icon of Hodegetria, rises in the center of the old downtown of the city. This is a unique building of the beginning of the XVIII century, an interesting architectural monument in the style of the Russian Siberian baroque.
The Holy Odigitrievsky Cathedral was built with the expectation that it would not collapse in case of an earthquake. After all, Ulan-Ude is located in a seismically dangerous zone. The view of the temple is elegant and fabulous thanks to the semicircular gables and golden domes. Here one can admire carved iconostases decorated with leaf-gold and paintings made by Russian artists.
