The Bishops Compound of the Temple of the Ascension resembles illustrations from the Russian folk tales owing to the Temple of the Ascension with gold domes, a green roof and white tent-shaped arches. The church was built in Perm in the early twentieth century. A few years later it became the focus of a religious scandal: a split into the Gregorians and Sergius followers in 1925 shattered the parishioners’ community. The temple was passing from hand to hand until the Bolsheviks resolved the conflict in their own way and arranged a bakery in the building.
The Bishops Compound of the Temple of the Ascension was returned to Believers in 1991. The temple in the pseudo-Russian style was restored. Now the Church of the Ascension is the hallmark of Perm. The building is especially beautiful at night when the tap lights are on.
