The Temple of Saint Seraphim Sarovskiy in Khabarovsk was built in the period from 2001 to 2004 on the Serafimovo Hill on the initiative of Archpriest Sergiy Meshcheryakov. The temple received its name thanks to the icon of the Orthodox saint brought to Khabarovsk in 1993. At that time the holy relics of St. Seraphim were transported to the Amur River Basin.
The Temple of Saint Seraphim Sarovskiy was consecrated in May 2008. It is not accidentally dedicated to this saint. The cult of Seraphim Sarovskiy originated in Russia at the very beginning of the twentieth century. Then Emperor Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra, desperate to have an heir to the throne, appealed to the figure of this Orthodox activist. They say that proclaiming of Seraphim to the saints and the visit of the imperial couple to Sarov helped the reigning spouses to give birth to Tsarevich Alexei. It is no secret that Seraphim Sarovskiy has never visited Khabarovsk and had nothing in common with the Far East.
