The Teatralnaya Square in Kaluga is adorned with a building with columns: this is a theater. Initially it was a market area and was called Bazarnaya Square and then the New Torg Square. The current square became Teatralnaya in the middle of the twentieth century when it was decided to build a regional theater here. This theater is considered one of the oldest in Russia.
The theater on the Teatralnaya Square traces its history back to 1777. It "moved" several times as its buildings were wooden, thus they burned and dilapidated. The current stone building dates from 1958. At the entrance to the theater there is a bronze statue of a girl holding a sign with the inscription: "Is there an extra ticket?" In front of the theater you can see a musical fountain complex decorated with sculptures of birds. In the warm season, the fountain plays with all colors and "sings" once a week.
