The most important religious shrine of the Kaluga region, the miraculous Icon of the Mother of God of Kaluga, is kept in St. George's Cathedral. Previously, it was in the Holy Trinity Cathedral. St. George's Cathedral instead of the burnt wooden church was built in the early XVIII century funded by a local merchant. The temple has survived to our days intact and is considered the brightest in Kaluga.
St. George's Cathedral looks impressive thanks to the two floors, pink walls, blue domes and a tent-shaped bell tower. Inside worth a look is the ceiling carving and the iconostasis. Besides the icon of the Mother of God of Kaluga, the temple keeps the images of St. George the Victorious, Paraskeva Pyatnitsa and other saints, as well as an altar cross with the relics of the Kiev Pechersk Saints.
