Kostroma is considered in Russia as the birthplace of the Snowmaiden, granddaughter of Ded Moroz (Santa Claus). It was here that the daughter of Ded Moroz and Vesna Krasna was born in the fairy tale of Alexander Ostrovsky, the Russian playwright of the middle of the 19th century. In 2008 a wooden palace was built for the Snowmaiden in the city. Everyone can visit it with children and plunge into the tale. However, one can do that only with an excursion.
In the Snowmaiden's palace fairy-tale characters – Domovoy (a house spirit) and Bayun Cat - will tell stories about the Berendei, will hold a real TV link-up from Veliky Ustyug - the city where Ded Moroz’s house is located, and the Snowmaiden will offer warm fur coats to guests, invite to her ice mansions and treat children with an oxygen cocktail, and adults with fragrant tinctures and mead. Due to the great popularity, it is better to book excursions to the Snowmaiden's Palace in advance.
