«Malye Korely» Museum of Wooden Architecture and Folk Art was opened 28 km to the south of Arkhangelsk in 1964. It was created to preserve the unique architectural monuments. The bell tower of the 16th century is the oldest building in the museum collection. Here there is also a windmill of the XVIII century. The museum totals six ethno-cultural zones and more than 100 buildings! Huts of various social strata and household buildings (barns, wells, baths and windmills) have been preserved here in addition to the churches and chapels. The territory of the museum features a functional church: reconstruction of the first floor of the Church of the Ascension with the ХIХ century icons.
National traditions are kept up in the «Malye Korely» Museum through conduction of bell concerts and folk festivals. Masters of different crafts gather here in early July. Master classes on embroidering, spinning and carding of wool are held during the Feast of the Intercession in autumn. On the Day of Saint Peter you can learn to mow, knit brooms and make «strigushki» dolls. A ritual in Pomorsk style can be performed for the newlyweds, if desired. The «Malye Korely» Museum of Wooden Architecture and Folk Art is visited by about 200 thousand people a year.
