You can see a small funny sculpture "Permyak the Salty Ears" in the center of Perm, on Komsomolsky Prospekt (Komsomolsky Avenue). This nickname was given to the natives of the Urals from olden times, as salt mining has long been a major source of income for the region. Most of the population worked in the salt mines: the fine salt dust settled on the clothes and on the skin, and when residents of the neighboring cities met natives of Perm, they often shouted out: "Hey, salty ears!"
Perm residents treat this legend and the funny sculpture with humor: an empty oval face with large and salty ears. The sculpture implies an interactive: those who wish to pose for a photograph can put their faces into a round frame with large ears.
