One of the largest zoos in Russia –the Roev Ruchey (swarms creek) Zoo- grew out of a "living corner", established by the workers of Stolby Nature Sanctuary in the 70-ies of the past century. Enthusiasts brought there animals and birds - the victims of poachers or careless tourists. Gradually the improvised zoo expanded. It was mainly home to representatives of the Siberian fauna: lynx, bears, wolves, wolverines, and martens. A small botanical garden was also created here. It was absolutely a non-commercial enterprise: volunteers worked at the zoo, and private investors financed their keeping.
By 2000, the authorities of the Krasnoyarsk Krai allotted an area of about 100 hectares on the banks of the Yenisei River, along the gold-bearing stream of the swarm’s creek. So the zoo was called "Swarms creek." All the animals and birds were moved to comfortable cages. Gradually, they bought flora and fauna representatives from other countries in the world. There were giraffes and lions, zebras and tigers, a variety of unusual marine animals, exotic birds and insects in the zoo. A Ferris wheel, an aquaterrarium, a dinosaur park, and a petting zoo where also built at the zoo. Today it is a great place to relax and "communicate" with the animals!
