The main decoration of the railway station forecourt in Saransk is the station building. The first station building was built here in 1893 when a railway from Moscow to Kazan passed through Saransk. Since that time the Saransk railway station has been reconstructed and rebuilt many times. Today's building with a black glass dome and red and white turrets was opened in 2009.

There is also a monument to the stratosphere fliers at the Railway Station Forecourt. The monument depicting an aviator is dedicated to the pilots of the aerostatic balloon "Osoaviakhim-1" who died in 1934. That time the three aerologist-engineers made the first in the world winter flight on the stratosphere up to 22 kilometers. However, when landing the balloon exploded.
