The Pogankin Chambers is a unique historical and architectural museum-reserve, created in Pskov in 1900. The building of the chambers was erected at the end of the 17th century for the merchant Pogankin. In 1711 the heirs of the clan did not remain and the chambers were taken over by the state. At first there were military warehouses here, and in 1900 the old building was handed over to the museum of the archaeological society.
Today in the Pogankin Chambers one can get acquainted with the expositions that are devoted to the defense of the city during the Great Patriotic War, can admire the paintings of the Pskov artists of the XV-XVII centuries, see the exhibition of silverware and get acquainted with the history of the Pskov land that is more than a thousand years old. The Chambers complex also includes the House of Masson. This mansion is a sample of architectural modernism of the early XX century. It stores a large collection of antique jewelry and treasures, which were found during excavations in the Pskov region.
