Petroglyphs of Sikachi-Alyan or Amur petroglyphs are rock carvings on basalt boulders near Khabarovsk. There was an ancient Nanai settlement in this place, the inhabitants of which left drawings on the stones lying here. Unique stones were entered by UNESCO in the preliminary list of World Heritage.
Petroglyphs of Sikachi-Alyan village were first described in 1859. But they became really known only after the publication of the results of the works of the Soviet scientist A.P. Okladnikov. He managed to determine the date of the creation of the images. It turned out that the earliest of them date back to 12000-10000 BC! The last
images are dated to the 3000 BC. Later Sikachi-Alyan boulders were used in religious rituals - it was a sacred place for the Nanais, where shamans performed their rituals. On separate stones one can see the story of the ancient people hunting on a mammoth, as well as other genre scenes and images of animals. All these incredible things can be seen here in the open-air museum.
