The oldest museum in Perm traces its history back to 1890. It was then that the city authorities, together with scientists, decided to establish a single exhibition space telling about the history and culture of the region. The first local history museum opened in Perm four years later. It gathered many private collections built by local enthusiasts. Among other things, here you can learn about the culture of the Kama region farmers, as well as get acquainted with the history of writing and the collection of unique stones.
Perm Local History Museum has moved many times. In 2009 it last moved to a luxurious building in the historic center, to the merchant Meshkov House. Moreover, the museum has its branches, in particular, the "Underground Printing House", which tells about the stages of development of the printing business in the region, Boris Pasternak’s House Museum, the Perm Museum of Antiquities. The old architecture lovers will surely enjoy not only the museum, but also Meshkov House. It was built in the early XIX century in classical style. Later, Meshkov House underwent some alteration. The building harmoniously balances symmetric lines typical of the classicism, rich stucco moldings and bas-reliefs.
