The unique architectural complex, Old Sarepta, is an opportunity for visitors to connect with the common history of Europe and Russia. In the XVIII-XIX centuries Herrnhuters, Protestants and followers of Jan Hus and the Moravian Church lived in Tsaritsyn (now Volgograd), on the territory of the German colony. They also have settlements in Latin America, Africa, India, the US and Europe. Herrnhuters’ settlement in Old Sarepta is now considered one of the most interesting attractions of its kind not only in Russia, but also in Europe!
Visiting the reserve Old Sarepta, you should look into the service and living spaces, the elegant church of Sarepta, the hotel and the restaurant of local national cuisine. There are guided tours to the reserve, offering an opportunity to discover the history of Herrnhuters, their manners and customs, to learn ancient crafts and listen to folk songs. In the middle of the reserve there is an unusual monument called the Equilibrio. It makes Volgograd one of the points that form a huge cross in the European part of our continent. The other three points are in Norway, Germany and the Canary Islands in Spain.
