The Museum of the History of Irkutsk reveals the life and traditions of the city people. The museum consists of the historical department and its branches: the House of Crafts, the Museum of Urban Life, the exposition "Soldiers of the Fatherland" and V. Rogal City Exhibition Center.
he Museum of the History of Irkutsk is more than 200 exhibitions devoted to archaeological finds, the state of the city in different time periods, its famous residents and the city's industry - the tea-packing factory and hydroelectric power station. The Museum of Urban Life is located in a country estate of the late XIX century. There are two exhibitions here: "The Life of Irkutsk Residents of the Late XIX - Early XX Century" and "The Museum of Tea." The first exhibition gives insight into the life of various social groups of Irkutsk at the turn of the century, and the second one tells about the history of tea trade in Irkutsk, which stood on the Tea Road. "Soldiers of the Fatherland" is a large-scale military exposition devoted to Irkutsk citizens who participated in the wars of the 19th - early 20th centuries, to the life of the rear Irkutsk during the Great Patriotic War and to veterans. The House of Crafts is actually a union of workshops rather than a museum. Here you can find a jewellery, ceramics, embroidery, lacework and other workshops. V. Rogal City Exhibition Center presents photos and paintings made by Irkutsk masters.
