Museum of Flax and Bark appeared in Kostroma in 2005. It was invented and created by a resident of the city Natalia Zabavina. Here one can join the best traditions of the original Slavonic crafts and discover some secrets of mastery.
In the Museum of Flax and Bark the guides are dressed in bright folk costumes. They tell how flax and birch bark were used in Russia. They also show how flaxseed turns into a shirt, and reveal the mystery of the strength of the birch bark tussocks. On an exciting master class an experienced master will teach you how to weave birch souvenirs or make a linen doll-amulet. There is a shop in the museum where you can buy very beautiful products made of flax and birch bark.
