Muravyov-Amursky Street in Khabarovsk is the main transport artery of the city. It was named after Count Muravyov-Amursky, who was Governor-General of Eastern Siberia from 1848 to 1861. It was he who concluded a border treaty with China and gave the city the name of the pioneer Yerofey Khabarov. The construction of the city began at the period of his governing.
During the life of the governor-general the street was simply called Bolshaya Street, but after his death it was renamed Muravyov-Amursky Street. After the revolution of 1917 the name of the street was changed. It was given the name of Karl Marx. But in 1992 they returned the old historical name to the street. The Central gastronome and a department store, the building of the Legislative Duma of Khabarovsk Krai, Khabarovsk Krai Drama Theater and Khabarovsk Regional Youth Theater are located on the Muravyov-Amursky Street.
