In 2012 on the bank of the Saranka River in the center of Saransk six Mordovian terems (towers) were erected according to the architectural samples of the XIX century and a complex "Mordovskoe Podvorye» appeared. This village was made so that to show the details of the life and the living conditions of the Mordvin peasants one hundred years ago.
One should visit the complex "Mordovskoe Podvorye" so that to immerse himself in the atmosphere of the open-air museum. In addition, inside the largest of the terems there is a restaurant of Mordvin cuisine, where one can taste traditional dishes and drinks, such as medovukha (alcohol drink made of honey) or khrenovukha (alcohol drink made of horseradish). The other terems house a smithy, in which a real blacksmith, a farmyard, a barn, a white bath and a cottage with a girl's attic, a stove and a small garden are working. In addition, there is a nice pond with a fountain and a waterfall in the museum village.
