The monument to Yuri Dolgoroky, the founder of Yuryev-Polsky, appeared on the central square of the town in 2002. This is a kind of claim of fame for Yuryev-Polsky: all pedestrian excursion routes start from the monument, and the image of the Old Russian prince on the background of the domes of the Monastery of Archangel Michael is on all tourist postcards.
The simple monument is made of granite. Prince Yuri Dolgoruky relies on a double-edged sword and peers into the distance. Small imperial lions are at his feet. There is a small cozy square around the monument, where you can relax and enjoy beautiful views of the historic center of Yuryev Polsky.
