Monastery of Archangel Michael is often called the Kremlin of Yuryev-Polsky: it is surrounded by steep earthen ramparts, a fortification wall and watchtowers. So the monastery resembles a small and well-protected town. The monastery was built in the XIII century.
On the landscaped and blossoming territory of the Monastery of Archangel Michael, there is an old bell tower of conical shape and four magnificent temples. It is the Znamenskaya refectory church with massive white-stone walls, graceful temples of John the Theologian and Michael the Archangel with fabulous golden domes. But the most surprising thing that you can see here is the old wooden church of St. George, brought here from Egorie village in 1967. It was built with only an ax without the use of nails, staples, saws and other tools. On the territory of the monastery there is the Museum of History, Architecture and Art of Yuryev-Polsky. It contains two expositions. One demonstrates the art of woodcarving, and the second is devoted to the biography of the heroic Russian commander P.I. Bagration.
