Mirozhsky Monastery is one of the oldest ones on the Pskov land. It was founded in the XII century. The monastery grew and developed over the centuries, and in 1922 it was closed. Only 72 years later the monastery was reborn. Now it is recognized as a unique object of historical, artistic and architectural significance.
The Christ's Transfiguration Cathedral rises on the territory of the Mirozhsky Monastery. It was built in the middle of the 12th century and decorated with frescoes that have survived to this day. The cathedral is under the protection of UNESCO and is open to visitors only in dry weather. Here one should pay attention at Stefanovskaya Church with the iconostasis of rare beauty, the monastery bell tower built in 1879 and the building of the senior priests, dated by the end of the XVIII - the beginning of the XIX century. It was in this monastery that the Pskov school of iconography was born. Today there are icon-painting workshops here which continue the Byzantine traditions of the XII century.
