The Literature Museum named after V.P. Astafiev is located in one of the few surviving wooden buildings in the center of Krasnoyarsk. Once the elegant Gothic mansion with stained-glass windows and pinnacles belonged to a wealthy Siberian merchant’s wife, F. Zuckerman. Later the building was nationalized. One of the first red municipalities in the town was organized in it, then for a long time it was a residential high-rise building.
Writer Viktor Astafiev breathed a new life into the wooden house. He had the idea of creating an exhibition area dedicated to the Siberian literature, poets and writers of the region. Thus the literature museum was created. Starting in the mid-twentieth century, enthusiasts began collecting manuscripts, memoirs, and correspondence of local writers. Many exhibits of the museum are devoted to the work of V. Astafiev.
