The Transfiguration Cathedral, which is the main temple of the town, stands at the Liberty Square of Tikhvin. It was built in 1748 on the site of an ancient wooden church. During the Soviet era the bell tower and the dome of the church were destroyed. Only in 1994 the cathedral again began to conduct services. And the restoration work was carried out in it till 2006. The ensemble of the square is complemented with ancient buildings and a number of Soviet-era memorials.
One needs to go to the Transfiguration Cathedral on the Liberty Square to see its main shrine: an old copy of the Tikhvin icon of the Mother of God, which was brought from Denmark by Russian merchants in 1671 and therefore named Stockholmian. On the square itself one can see the local House of Culture. Various events are held on the site near it during the holidays. In one of the parks near the square one can see a monument to V.I. Lenin erected in 1974 as well as a memorial complex in the form of a red star, dedicated to the soldiers who died in the battles of the Great Patriotic War. The two-story building of the Gostiny Dvor, which is an architectural monument of the XVIII century, is also noteworthy.
