Lenin Square in Smolensk is a typical Soviet layout and a monument to V.I. to Lenin, the leader of the world proletariat. In 1929, the House of the Soviets was erected here, which was later rebuilt in the style of Russian classics. The oldest construction in the square is the imposing building of the Smolensk State Drama Theater with red columns, built in 1939.
The square itself, as well as the area around it, is pedestrian. In summer, citizens make appointments here and stroll in the shade of old maples, and in winter a free skating rink opens in the square. Next to the square there is a picturesque city Garden Blone with a monument to the composer Glinka, a musical fountain and sculptures from Göring summer house, brought to Smolensk from Germany after World War II.
