The author of the Monument "The Motherland is Calling!", sculptor E. Vuchetich, is also the author of the statue of V.I. Lenin, standing at the entrance of the Volga-Don Canal. The statue looks impressive: Vladimir Ilyich, as if walking confidently in the direction of the water, is looking into the distance. It is 57 meters high including the pedestal! The monument was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's largest monument to a real man.
The decision to create a monument to Lenin was taken in 1969. It was required to fill the empty pedestal then, on which the figure of Joseph Stalin stood before. After Stalingrad was renamed as Volgograd and the cult of personality was debunked, the statue was dismantled. The Lenin Monument was erected on the canal in 1973.
