Krasnoyarsk Regional Local Lore Museum: Siberia’s History Comes Alive In It
The monumental building on the banks of the Yenisei, resembling an ancient Egyptian temple with massive pillars and sloping walls is Krasnoyarsk Regional Local Lore Museum. It is the largest Russian exhibition area beyond the Urals. Its collection includes about 500 thousand exhibits making it possible to trace the entire history of the region at the museum!
The regional museum has a fine collection of Russian weapons of different eras, art and cultural objects, pieces of work of local artisans. Visitors will see both miraculously preserved skeletons of prehistoric animals, mammoth and Stegosaurus, and ancient icons and letters of the Decembrists exiled to Siberia. The museum has several thematic tour routes, as it is impossible to examine the entire collection at a time.
