Kolomenskoye is a huge park with almost 400 hectares in area, located on the high river bank. There was a patrimonial estate of grand princes, and later of emperors here in the XIV century. The main attraction of Kolomenskoye is the Church of the Ascension, the first tent-shaped church in Russia, erected in the early XVI century. The white-stone "flying" church with a two-tiered open arcade-gallery and a 62-meter tower has recently been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In 1920, a Museum of wooden architecture started to be created in Kolomenskoye. A lot of historical buildings appeared here at the time, such as the house of Peter the Great from Arkhangelsk, a mead brewery from the village of Preobrazhenskoye, the Mokhovaya Tower of Sumskoy Ostrog of the XVII century, and so on. Interesting is the wooden palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich reconstructed according to the 17th century drawings, with green roofs and rich interiors with glased tile stoves, luxurious carpets and utensils. Today Kolomenskoye is a large interactive and entertainment center. Here you can see the existing recreated stable, smithy, water mill, peasant hut and apiary, as well as personate a peasant, beekeeper or take some part in court ceremonies. Those loving calm repose can enjoy horseriding in Kolomenskoye or take a boat ride along the Moskva River from the quay of Kolomenskoye, near Saburovsky Bridges, the Nikolo-Perervinsky Monastery and the wharfwall.
