Tomsk is an exceptionally green city. In the heart of the city there are still some large parks and squares of the late XIX — early XX centuries. Igumenskiy Park and Buff Garden are located close to each other. Igumenskiy Park was named after the river Igumenka. Now on its territory there is only a lake, and the river was hidden in the collector. Flower beds have been laid out around the lake, a coniferous forest has been preserved and an apothecary garden has been planted. An unusual scientific museum in the open air «Archimedes courtyard» has been recently opened in the park. On swings and carousels children learn the laws of the physics. There is also a unique developing «Montessori Bench» in the park.
Next to the Igumenskiy park is the Buff-Garden. It was founded in Tomsk in 1907 when the taiga was still rustling here. But for many years the Buff-Garden works like a children’s park. This is a great place for walking and relaxing. There is a cascade fountain and there are sculptures of fairy-tale heroes in this garden.
In 2006 a Lutheran church was built between the Igumenskiy Park and the Buff-Garden. It is made of wood and stylized under the wooden mansions that adorn Tomsk.
